Adobe Presenter deletes Articulate Presenter project files??

Ok, spent the last day and a half chasing around this very nasty bug in Adobe Presenter 6.1 and felt compeled to blog about it.

I couldn't for the life of me figure out why the SWFs and FLVs that I had inserted via Articulate Presenter were magically getting deleted from my system. It turned out that the system I was using also had Adobe Presenter 6.1 installed on it. Even after removing Articulate Presenter, Adobe Presenter still continued to delete my non-Adobe Presenter project files.

See the steps and screen grabs below for a step-by-step account of what happens.

1. Install Articulate Presenter 5

2. Create a new PowerPoint presentation

3. Insert a SWF via Articulate Presenter

4. Notice this project folder is created

5. Notice the project folder contains the SWF I inserted

6. I uninstalled Articulate Presenter

7. Verified the SWF I inserted was still in the project folder

8. I installed Adobe Presenter

9. Hit Save in PowerPoint

10. AHHHHHH...Notice my SWF just disappeared from my Articulate Presenter project folder

In case you are wondering, this only seems to happen when you have Adobe Presenter on your system, and I am not really sure what versions of Adobe Presenter are affected.

So, if you have wondered why files seem to mysteriously get deleted from your system, you might want to check and make sure that Adobe Presenter did not delete them.

Note: I kid you not, this really happens, and I know a lot of potential customers of ours and Adobes might trial both products, so if you decided to purchase our software, I would strongly suggest uninstalling Adobe Presenter if you ever had it installed.

Well that certainly isn't playing well with others.

    How you doing, Dave?

Dave can you help with this?
Does anyone know how to import Quizmaker quizzes and publish them via Adobe Presenter?

Based on this other post: http://www.connectusers.com/forums/cucbb/viewtopic.php?id=870
Articulate engage works great publishing as Mike suggests. Problem being that any quizzes you create using Adobe Presenter will not work. I just spent 3.5 hrs on the phone with Adobe, they don't have documentation on how to import Quizmaker files.

Here is the official Adobe response:
Open an Articulate Presenter file in Adobe Presenter
Files created in Articulate® Presenter can be opened and edited in Adobe Presenter. The original Articulate presentation is never modified; a copy of the presentation is converted and opened in Adobe Presenter.

The Articulate assets folder should be available along with the Articulate presentation file. Without the asset folder and its contents, Articulate features cannot be imported into the presentation when it is opened in Adobe Presenter.

Adobe Presenter supports most Articulate Presenter data, including Flash, audio, and quiz information (as long as the Articulate Presenter assets folder is available). The following Articulate Presenter features are not supported: Learning Games, Engage Interactions, Insert Web Object.

Adobe Presenter does not support all Articulate Presenter question types. Unsupported questions are not imported during the conversion process. A detailed log report (ConversionLog.log) is generated at the end of the conversion process and provides details about the conversion, including any dropped questions.

Question: what is the assets folder for quizmaker?
Has anyone got this to work? If so, can you post how you did it, what the steps were and what files are needed for this to work in the published Adobe Presenter files.

    Thanks,
    Dustin

    Hey Dustin,

I am sorry, I am not going to be of much assistance on this one. I make a habit of not testing our competitors software, because it gives me a bad feeling whenever I use bad software. :-)

In all seriousness though, the quizmaker asset will be at the root of the project folder and it will be named something.aqp. As far as anyone ever getting this to work...I am not sure, the Adobe people would be the ones to ask on this. From what it sounds like, the support they provided was kinda sucky. I guess the moral of the story here is to not use Adobe Presenter.

P.S. Dustin, if you are interested, I can get you on the Articulate Presenter '09 beta so you can check that out. It is heads and shoulders above Adobe Presenter.

Dave, I'm using both Presenters (Articulate and Adobe) and am very interested in getting on the Articulate Presenter '09 beta.
Could you please get me on it ?

    Thanks

    Hi Nico,

    What is your email address?

    Dave,

I am on the fence between Adobe Presenter and Articulate Presenter. I am a free trial of both, and I am experiencing similar issues that are posted in your blog. At first, I love the way Articulate was so easy to use and how fast material can be produced ... But it lacked certain creative elements that I found in Adobe's Presenter. Adobe Presenter does have its flaws, so now I am back to the decision of "which Presenter to buy?".

In short, I was wondering if I can have access to a Beta build of Presenter 9 for my evaluation. I can offer detailed and professional feedback, as I am a software QA/Technical Support specialist as well.

    Would this be possible?

    Best,

    Ryan
